Search documentation changes can create noise. The best response is to separate actual product or policy changes from clarifications, then decide whether your website or reporting needs action.

Review your structured data

Google’s 2026 documentation updates have included changes to VideoObject guidance and regional Search experiences. Review markup that you actually use, validate it, and confirm it reflects visible content. Do not add properties simply because they appeared in a changelog.

Do not rely on FAQ rich results

Google removed the FAQ rich result feature from Search in May 2026. FAQ content can still help visitors, but do not forecast organic results based on FAQ rich-result display. Keep helpful answers where they serve user needs.

Keep AI content useful and accountable

Google’s updated guidance reinforces the importance of quality and usefulness when generative AI is used in content production. Assign an owner to verify claims, review originality, add first-hand expertise where possible and maintain a clear update process.

Measure before making changes

Use Search Console, analytics, conversion data and technical monitoring to establish a baseline. If performance drops, investigate indexing, page changes, seasonality, demand and tracking before attributing the change to a single update.

Checklist

  • Check official Search Central updates monthly.
  • Validate markup and ensure it matches visible page content.
  • Review high-value pages for accuracy, usefulness and freshness.
  • Track business outcomes alongside organic clicks and impressions.
  • Record what changed and why so results can be evaluated later.
